Solomon Islands

The Solomon Islands is culturally diverse with 75 language groups spread over 992 mountainous islands and coral atolls covering approximately 28,000 km. Around 85% of the approximately 625,000 Solomon Islanders depend on subsistence and local market farming for their food and nutrition security. In the Solomon Islands the agricultural sector is the most important sector for the economy, it accounts for approximately 16% of the GDP. In the Solomon Islands, 33% of children under the age of 5 years are malnourished, and nearly half are anaemic. Some 93.6% of islanders consumed less than the recommended five servings of fruit and vegetables.
