Kiribati National Roundtable Workshop – Promoting Nutritious Food Systems in the Pacific Islands
CTA and the Pacific Islands Private Sector Organization (PIPSO), in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) organise a 2-day national workshop on ‘Promoting Nutritious Food Systems in the Pacific Islands’ on 13-14 March 2018 in Tarawa.
This interactive workshop is part of a series of national policy roundtables for the project ‘Leveraging the Development of Local Food Crops and Fisheries Value Chains for Improved Nutrition and Sustainable Food Systems in the Pacific Islands with a focus on Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu’.
In addition to presenting the project and the currently running Innovation Grant Facility (IGF), the workshop will also:
- Engage and share evidence generated to date with key stakeholders;
- Identify actions that strengthen public-private producer partnerships to upgrade and/or develop priority local food and fisheries value chains that are nutrition and culturally sensitive;
- Explore options and define priority actions: for strengthening women’s and youth’s role in agriculture, nutrition, value chain and agri-business development; as well as for building resilience to the impacts of climate change on the atolls environment, agriculture and traditional food systems in Kiribati
- Co-develop draft action plans for influencing policies and programmes and mobilising public and private investment
