New Report on the Learning Journey at the inaugural Pacific Week of Agriculture in Vanuatu

New report out with invaluable insights addressing the Pacific regions’ challenges in value chain development, agritourism, youth entrepreneurship, nutrition and health

« A journey often denotes movement. It can be short, long or never-ending. Hopefully those who benefit will be different, perhaps enriched when it ends. » – Judith Francis, Senior Programme Coordinator, CTA

The Pacific Week of Agriculture (PWA), held in Port Vila, Vanuatu, from 16-20 October 2017 gave a platform for the CTA/IFAD/PIPSO project Promoting Nutritious Food Systems in the Pacific to hold side-events and a field trip, that were organized in the form of a learning journey. The project has a strong focus on fostering agricultural innovation towards the production, sale and increased availability and accessibility of nutritious local foods that increase incomes and improve health – and learning is at the heart of innovation.

Value chain actors – farmers, processors, scientists and representatives of the public and private sector, mostly from the seven focal countries in the Pacific as well as the African and Caribbean region came together to be part of this journey – to interact and share their knowledge.

The outcome of this journey goes beyond countries, regions and thematic borders. This report not only describes the activities during the PWA – but has much more to offer: Valuable insights on lessons learned, critical success factors and the way forward, that were shared and shaped by the participants of this learning journey – the actors on the ground – in the fields of Youth Agripreneurship, Value Chain Coordination and Agritourism.

“If our friends from Kenya, Mauritius and Trinidad & Tobago can make it big, we from the Pacific can also achieve greater things. It’s not about the challenges, it’s about providing the opportunities!” –  Kaliova Nadumu Project Manager – Fiji Agricultural Partnership Project
